Bachata
Bachata is a genre of Latin American music that originated in the Dominican Republic in the first half of the 20th century with Indigenous, African and European musical elements. The genre comes from a mixing of the pan-Latin American style called bolero with more elements coming from Son, and the troubadour singing tradition common in Latin America. Contemporary Bachata emerged from guitar music tradition that was often accompanied by percussion instruments, for example, maracas, clave, and guira at that time. Moreover, in the beginning, Bachata songs were as romantic, sentimental melodies similar to Cuban bolero
It is danced in a couple and its characteristic movement is the Cuban hip motion.
The newer fusion style, arose probably around 2005. This style is widely considered to have originated in Spain. The basics are the same as traditional Style Bachata, but with added dance elements and styling from Salsa, Tango, Zouk-lambada and Ballroom.
Another style of Bachata which is very popular now is sensual Bachata. It is again considered to be originated in Spain. Bachata Sensual is a mix between dance and theatre with strict follow and lead principles. The dance is an interpretation of the music with mostly circular movements and body waves, except when the music has stronger beats, when the dance uses isolations and dips.
